Stellate Ganglion Block Treatment
A stellate ganglion block is an injection of local anesthetic into the sympathetic nerve tissue in the neck. The nerves are located on both sides of the voice box and are part of the sympathetic nervous system. Stellate ganglion injections block the nerves that run to the arms and sometimes the nerves leading to the face.
Stellate ganglion blocks can be used repeatedly over time to help with pain management, but can also be used as a diagnostic tool to determine the underlying cause of the pain. Your doctor may decide to follow up with corrective surgery, depending on the condition causing the symptoms.
